Beckley., WV (WOAY) –Students at Woodrow Wilson Highschool held an event today to raise money for their upcoming play.
The event was called Cookies and Canvas it was joined by students, parents and faculty as they fund-raised for their theater departments upcoming play Wizard of Oz.
The theater department has majority of the props and costumes needed. But they specifically need the movies famous yellow brick road. The road will be custom made from a company in Charlotte, NC.
So far the school has raised about 35,000 thousand dollars in order to make this play happen.
Theater Teacher Jerri Stack tells Newswatch, “I just really am grateful because so many people are here and have helped us with any other thing that we’ve done just to support us and it means a great deal that people have come out and gone out of their way and taken their Saturday morning to do something that they enjoy.”
The Wizard of Oz play will run for two weekends beginning April 20th starting at 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays it will play at 2:00 p.m. tickets are 12 dollars for adults and 8 dollars for children.
