Will Grier Returning to WVU in 2018

WOAY – West Virginia quarterback Will Grier announced Thursday that he will return for his senior season in 2018.

The Davidson, North Carolina native transferred to West Virginia prior to the 2016 season, where he sat out per transfer requirements. Earlier this summer, he was ruled eligible to compete the entire regular season, and he was named the Big 12’s Preseason Newcomer of the Year.

In 11 appearances, Grier threw for 34 touchdowns (already ninth in WVU history) and 3,490 yards; his top passing game came at Baylor, with 375 yards and five touchdowns. He was a five-time conference newcomer of the week, and was named Newcomer of the Year by both the Big 12 coaches and Associated Press. Grier sustained an injury in the Mountaineers’ home finale against Texas, and missed the Oklahoma game.

West Virginia opens the 2018 season in Charlotte September 1 against Tennessee. They face Utah in the Heart of Dallas Bowl December 26.

Speaking of the bowl game, WVU will be without Justin Crawford when they face the Utes, as the senior running back will opt to prepare for the 2018 NFL Draft. Crawford ran for more than 2100 yards and 11 touchdowns in two years with the Mountaineers, and was the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Year in 2016.
