West Virginia Headed to Heart of Dallas Bowl

WOAY – West Virginia football is headed to a bowl game for the fourth straight year, as the Mountaineers will face Utah in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on December 26. This will be WVU’s 36th appearance in a bowl game, going 15-20 in the past. The Mountaineers and Utes played in the 1964 Liberty Bowl, which Utah won 32-6. In their last bowl game against a Pac-12 opponent, the Mountaineers came from behind to beat Arizona State 43-42 in the 2016 Cactus Bowl.

Marshall is also in the FBS postseason, and will play Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl on December 16. The Thundering Herd is making its 14th bowl appearance (10-3 in previous years), having won five straight. This is Marshall’s eighth different destination for a bowl game (Orlando, Detroit/Pontiac, Mobile, Fort Worth, St. Petersburg, Annapolis, Boca Raton).

Virginia Tech will face Oklahoma State in the Camping World Bowl (Orlando) on December 28. It’s the Hokies’ 25th straight bowl appearance, and 31st all-time; they have won three straight. They are 1-1 in bowl games against teams currently in the Big 12, beating Texas in the 1995 Sugar Bowl but losing to Kansas in the 2008 Orange Bowl; Nebraska was also in the Big 12 when they beat Virginia Tech in the 1996 Orange Bowl.
