Matoka, WV – Veterans Day is right around the corner and one school hosted an observance to show their appreciation for Veterans.
Lashmeet Matoka Elementary school began showing veterans how thankful they are with a lunch at 11:30. Students invited veterans they knew to have lunch with them
” I believe our veterans should be honored and they need the respect that they rightfully deserve.” Said Blake Pacitto, 5th Grade
Following after lunch the students put on a program where they acknowledged veterans, the branches they served in and sung meaningful songs such as bound for glory
” We want to teach our children that they need to take pride in their country and appreciate what has been done.I think they have learned that freedom is not free that we have had people that have really sacrificed a lot for their freedom.” Said Becky Dunford, Coordinator of Veterans Day Observance
The program ended with a Flag folding presented by veterans of the marine corps. “I’m proud to serve, I served in the corps and I’m proud to serve right now.” Said Freddie Harvey, Marine Corps. Veteran
In a special way to recognize and say thank you for your sacrifice and for serving our country.
