BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – With the passing of former President George H.W. Bush, Governor Jim Justice made an executive order making December, 5th 2018 a “Day of Mourning”.
The federal government, state offices, and schools in all 55 counties were closed. Although the day is important, it can put parents who work at a disadvantage having to make plans for their children’s care when school is closed at the last minute.
One parent tells Newswatch, “We were all very surprised, it’s always difficult at that last minute trying to find out what you’re going to do,” Susan Williams adds.
Though parents may have worked during the “Day of Mourning” they are still paying their respects and honoring the passing of former President George H.W. Bush.
