WOAY – The 2018 state wrestling tournament began Thursday in Huntington, with several local teams making positive strides in the opening session.
All 14 of Independence’s grapplers advanced to the Class AA/A quarterfinals in their respective divisions, and the Patriots lead the team standings by more than 20 points over East Fairmont. Greenbrier West is the top Class A team, leading Wirt County and Madonna.
Greenbrier East is third in the Class AAA standings with 25.5 points, trailing Parkersburg South and Huntington. Woodrow Wilson is currently tied for 17th.
Matches continue Friday at 11 AM.
