State Soccer Tournament to Stay in Beckley

WOAY – The WVSSAC announced Thursday that the high school soccer tournament will stay in Beckley for the next four years.

Woodrow Wilson High School and the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Complex have hosted the state soccer tournament every year since 2004. This season’s state champions included Fairmont Senior and George Washington boys, while Charleston Catholic and Morgantown won the girls’ championships.

Along with the announcement that the soccer championships would stay in Beckley, Cabell Midland will continue to host the cross country championships. This news comes a few months after the softball state tournament was moved from Vienna to South Charleston; in addition, a committee is currently planning a bid to hold the Super Six football championships at both Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield and Hunnicutt Stadium in Princeton.

The last area soccer team to make the state tournament was Greenbrier East’s girls team in 2017.
