Rays Win as Franco Receives Second League Honor

WOAY – The Princeton Rays are on a four-game win streak after defeating the Burlington Royals 6-4 Monday evening at Hunnicutt Field.

The visitors opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning, before Princeton countered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Rays were led Monday by Grant Witherspoon and Tony Pena each recording two RBI; Witherspoon hit a two-run home run in the 2nd.

Earlier on Monday, Wander Franco was named the Appalachian League Player of the Week for a second time this season. Franco batted 12-for-24 last week, recording a hit in all of Princeton’s six games. He batted 1-for-3 Monday, scoring a run.

The Bluefield Blue Jays also won Monday, edging the Kingsport Mets 9-7 in Tennessee. Hagen Danner led the Blue Jays batting 3-for-4 and scoring three runs. Bluefield will go for the series win Tuesday, while Princeton has the chance to sweep Burlington.
