Raleigh County Volunteer Fire Department’s Can Now Assist In Responding To Cardiac Calls

274

RALEIGH COUNTY (WOAY) – Coming up soon there will be a major addition to the services provided by the Raleigh County Fire Service. Volunteer Fire Department’s have in the past not generally responded to medical calls unless they were a licensed EMS agency, however, as a joint effort between the 13 volunteer fire departments serving Raleigh County and the Raleigh County Emergency Services Authority we will now be providing a service to the county that we believe will be a life-saving tool to the community.

Effective on Sunday, March 11, 2018, Volunteer Fire Departments in Raleigh County will be dispatched to and will respond to Cardiac Arrest calls in which CPR and AED use can potentially save lives. Early CPR has been proven to be instrumental in spontaneous resuscitation. There are times when ambulances are running thin due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control and we believe that if a volunteer fire department can begin CPR and utilize an AED while awaiting an ambulance to arrive then that time can possibly be the difference in whether or not that patient survives the cardiac event.

We are proud of this joint effort and it is our pleasure to provide this service as a County Fire Association and we strongly believe without a doubt that it can and will save lives in Raleigh County. It is our desire to serve our communities in any way that we can.
