Princeton Rays Win First Game of 2018

Princeton, WV (WOAY) – The Princeton Rays came from behind Friday to beat the Danville Braves 4-3 at Hunnicutt Field, earning their first win of the 2018 Appalachian League season.

Princeton opened the scoring on a second-inning RBI double from Roberto Alvarez double, before the Braves responded with a tying run in the fifth. The visitors’ first lead came in the sixth inning on a two-run home run from Brendan Venter, but Princeton answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Osmy Gregorio, who batted 1-4 with two RBI, hit the go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning.

The Rays and Braves continue their series Saturday and Sunday in Princeton. The Bluefield Blue Jays, meanwhile, are in Burlington, with the Blue Jays winning Friday’s game 9-6.
