Moya, Safin Coming to Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic

WOAY – The Greenbrier announced its complete lineup for the 2018 Champions Tennis Classic on Thursday, as major champions Carlos Moya and Marat Safin will both come to Southern West Virginia for the event.

Moya won his only Grand Slam singles title 20 years ago at the French Open, also reaching the final of the 1997 Australian Open. The former top-ranked player in the world helped Spain win the 2004 Davis Cup, winning matches over Americans Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish in the final of that competition. Moya is currently one of Rafael Nadal’s trainers.

Safin is a two-time singles champion, winning the 2000 US Open and 2005 Australian Open. He and his sister, Dinara, are the only brother-sister duo in tennis history to both reach #1 in the world rankings. He was instrumental in Russia winning the Davis Cup in 2002 and 2006, before retiring in 2009. Safin is the first Russian player inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Moya and Safin will both join Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Kevin Anderson, and Marcos Baghdatis for this year’s event. There will be a men’s singles and women’s singles match on Saturday, September 15, while Moya and Safin will play in the Legends Singles match on Sunday, to be followed by a mixed doubles match. There are a limited amount of tickets still available.
