BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- A mock trial lead to real wins for students at Appalachian Classical Academy Wednesday morning.
The second annual Mock Trial took place in order for students to learn not necessarily how to become lawyers, but to overcome stage fright, speak in front of a crowd and argue for what they believe is lawful.
Students were given a criminal case of a defendant that had been charged with creating a homemade bomb to injure a student accused of bullying her.
Jamie Buckland who organized the event says this helps students to learn to work as a team and practice lawyer skills, “It’s can sometimes be hard for these students to prepared for these opportunities as they can not be coach once the trial begins and they have the entire process on their own. Before the trial, we do coach them and make sure they understand what will happen but the day of the mock trial, they have no guidance or coaching which helps them to grow even stronger,” said Buckland.
The mock trial helps students to understand the importance of being a lawyer.
