Miners Return to Winning Ways Over Kings

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – With only three weeks remaining in the Prospect League regular season, games are becoming more critical for the West Virginia Miners in their bid for a playoff spot.

Tuesday brought a much-needed 4-3 win over East Division leaders Champion City on WOAY Night at Epling Stadium. The Miners remain a game behind Butler for second place but only 1.5 games behind the Kings.

After giving up an early run, the Miners took the lead in the second inning, with Cody Callaway tying the game on a single into center field, before scoring himself to give the Miners their first lead 2-1.

The visitors tied it at two the next inning, but Callaway would score the eventual winning run in the fifth inning.

It’s a quick turnaround for the two teams, who play again at Epling Stadium at noon Wednesday.
