Marshall Wins New Mexico Bowl

WOAY – Marshall football closed 2017 on a winning note Saturday, winning the New Mexico Bowl 31-28 over Colorado State. It’s the sixth straight bowl win for the Thundering Herd, who improve to 11-3 in the postseason all-time.

A scoreless first quarter was followed by a second quarter that featured five combined touchdowns, with Marshall leading at halftime 21-14. The Thundering Herd would extend that lead to 17 points in the third, before the Rams scored twice in the fourth. Colorado State had one last possession to tie or take the lead, but the Herd defense made plays to preserve the win.

Offensively for Marshall, Chase Litton threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns, Keion Davis had a career-high 141 rushing yards and a score, and Tyre Brady recorded 165 receiving yards, including a 76-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Colorado State’s Nick Stevens threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns.

Marshall is now 5-0 in bowl games under Doc Holliday.
