Coal City, WV (WOAY) – John H. Lilly is the new head coach of Independence football, with the Raleigh County Board of Education approving his hiring Tuesday night.
Lilly returns to high school football after two seasons as an assistant at Bluefield College, also coaching in the Greenbrier Spring League.
He was the head coach at Woodrow Wilson from 2000-2015, leading the Flying Eagles to multiple Class AAA playoff appearances. Lilly was also the head coach at Shady Spring.
Independence went 6-4 in 2017, closing the season with five straight wins.
