Grier, Thomson on Unitas Watch List

WOAY – West Virginia’s Will Grier and Marshall’s Alex Thomson were both named this week to the watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The award is given annually to the top senior or fourth-year junior quarterback in college football, based on character, athletic and academic achievements, and leadership qualities, among other factors.

This is the fifth watch list selection for Grier, who was also named the Big 12’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He will enter the 2018 season coming off a successful first season with the Mountaineers, where he threw for 34 touchdowns, and was the conference’s Newcomer of the Year in both the preseason and postseason.

Thomson arrived in Huntington this past spring after several years at FCS Wagner. He threw 24 total touchdown passes in two seasons at Wagner, and is currently competing with Garet Morrell and Isaiah Green for the starting job with the Thundering Herd. Thomson is the eighth different Marshall player named to an individual award’s watch list.

The Golden Arm Award winner will be announced December 7.
