Going to middle school costs more this year

WEST VIRGINIA (BY: JIM ROSS, STATEJOURNAL.com) - Parents of elementary- and middle school-age children can expect to spend a little more in their back-to-school shopping and activity fees this year, but high school will cost a little less.

That was the conclusion of the annual Huntington Bank Backpack Index for the upcoming school year released recently.

For the 2017-2018 school year, according to the Backpack Index, parents can expect to pay $662 per child in elementary school, up 1 percent from last year; $1,001 per child in middle school, up 4.6 percent; and$1,489 per high school student, down less than 1 percent.
