Bluefield earned the number one seed in Class AA by virtue of a 23-2 record. The only thing standing between them and a state title? Fairmont Senior.
The Lady Beavers started strong, just as they had in their first two games in Charleston. Only this time, Fairmont Senior matched them blow for blow, and the score was knotted at 12 at the end of the first. In the second, the Lady Polar Bears froze out Bluefield’s shooters, holding them to just 1-12 from the field. The result was a 12 point lead for Fairmont Senior heading into the intermission.
In the second half, both teams put up 27 points, but the damage had been done. Fairmont Senior captures the state title with the 54-42 win. Erica Bowles led the Lady Polar Bears with 23 points, 8 rebounds and five steals, while Anysa Jordan chipped in with 17 and 12 boards.
Autumn Spangler, Jasiah Smith, and Dani Janutolo, the three double digit scorers for Bluefield in the final, were named to the All-Tournament Team.
