Four Area Golfers Qualify for WV Amateur

WOAY – Qualifying begins this week for the 2018 West Virginia Amateur, which returns to the Greenbrier next month.

The second qualifier took place Wednesday at Edgewood Country Club in Sissonville, with four area golfers among the 22 who will advance to the championship.

Two of those four shared the lowest round of the day, as Walker Dent (White Sulphur Spring) and Patrick Smith (Beckley) shared co-medalist honors after posting two-under par rounds of 69. Isaiah Zaccheo and Chris Daniels, both of Beckley, also qualified after posting 73 & 74, respectively.

Qualifying continues Thursday at the Club at Cress Creek (Shepherdstown), Monday at Bridgeport Country Club, next Wednesday at Fincastle on the Mountain (Bluefield), and May 25 at Esquire Golf Club (Barboursville). Nine had already qualified Tuesday at Parkersburg Country Club.

The first round of the 2018 WV Amateur Championship is Monday, June 4.
