Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Woodrow Wilson boys basketball clinched the Class AAA Region 3 Section 2 title after a 79-45 win against Princeton Friday night.
The Flying Eagles gained momentum in the second quarter, as Mikey Penn led all scorers with 18 points. Eddie Christian added 14 points, while Cade Fix led the Tigers with 12.
Woodrow Wilson will host a Region 3 co-final Tuesday against Capital, while Princeton heads to George Washington.
In Class A, Greater Beckley overcame a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to win 56-49 against Mount View and win the Region 3 Section 2 championship for a second straight year. Jay Moore led the Crusaders with 27 points, while Latrell Hairston recorded 16 for the Golden Knights. Greater Beckley will host Pocahontas County Wednesday, while Mount View will visit Webster County.
Nicholas County is headed to regionals in Class AA, but the Grizzlies lost at Braxton County 66-54 Friday evening. Luke LeRose scored 19 points for the Grizzlies, who await the outcome of Saturday’s Region 2 Section 1 final between Bridgeport & Robert C. Byrd; they would play at the winner on Thursday.
