Crews continue to work on a train derailment that occurred Sunday morning

GLEN JEAN, WV (WOAY)- Crews are continuing to work on a CSX train that was derailed Sunday morning near the Fayette Station area of New River Gorge National River.

Reports from CSX indicate that eight cars carrying coal were involved in the incident, with some spillage of coal fines, or coal sized between one-eighth and one-sixteenth of an inch, into Marr Branch, a tributary of the New River that flows in just below Fayette Station.

Resource managers from the park surveyed the site for potential resource damage and noted containment efforts underway by CSX that included silt fencing to catch any new contaminants that might enter the water.

Luckily, no fuel leakage was involved in the incident and there were no injuries.
