Blue Jays Hold Off Late Rally in 11-10 Win

Bluefield, VA (WOAY) – The Bluefield Blue Jays withstood a Johnson City rally to win 11-10 Thursday at Bowen Field, taking the first three-game series of the 2018 Appalachian League season.

The hosts struck first in the opening inning, and responded to the Cardinals’ tying run with three in the third and five more runs in the fourth. Johnson City scored four runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to tie the game.

Dom Abbadessa was one of the Blue Jays’ offensive leaders, batting 3-5 with three RBI and two runs. Alejandro Kirk also brought in three runs, batting 4-5. Bluefield begins its first road series of the season Friday at Burlington.

Princeton was hoping to avoid being swept at Kingsport Thursday, but the Mets won in walk-off fashion 5-4 to complete the sweep. The Rays hold their first home series this weekend against Danville.
