Chief Meteorologist Tyler BarkerChief Meteorologist Tyler Barker

has been fascinated with the weather since he was 8 years old. He always knew he wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist when he grew up. He would sit and watch local meteorologist every time they were on and loved the Weather Channel. He used to practice in front of the TV and make his younger brother watch him tell the weather. Growing up his role model was Lanie Pope on WXII 12. He was a weather watcher and would call in daily to give the high/low temperatures of the day, precipitation totals, or any severe weather that occurred. Tyler loves all kinds of weather; including tornadoes, severe weather, snowstorms, and hurricanes.

Tyler grew up in the foothills of North Carolina, in a one stop light town named Boonville, NC. He went to college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Meteorology in December of 2015. He completed two internships, one with Grant Gilmore in Greensboro, NC at WFMY News 2, and the second internship with WCNC NBC Charlotte with Brad Panovich. Tyler moved to West Virginia to take his first job at WOAY-TV the day after he graduated. He became the weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter. His first day on air was Christmas Day night, one which he will never forget. In September, Tyler was promoted to Chief Meteorologist where you can find him weekdays at 5, 6, and 11 pm on WOAY-TV.

When Tyler is not working, he enjoys spending time with his miniature schnauzer Jack, which keeps him busy. He loves to cook, watch TV shows, hang out with friends and family, and make people laugh. He is always studying the weather and keeping up with the latest forecast two to three times a day. He loves a challenge and mountain meteorology is a big challenge.
