A Special Olympic Bocce Ball team needs a court to practice on, and one Beckley man is going to make its dream come true.
Gary Morefield says he saw a group playing Bocce ball in Beckley. It turns out what he saw was a team competing for the Special Olympics. When Morefield realized the team didn’t have a proper court to practice on, he decided that on Saturday, he’s going to build one at the YMCA.
“They’re ecstatic about it,” Morefield said. “I mean they’re just absolutely delighted that somebody took interest in their them basically. I just felt a need for the community and then when they’re not practicing anybody can go out and play Bocce ball.”
Morefield, a mechanic, will start building the court Saturday at 10 A.M. He says anyone is welcome to help him all day.
