Adventures On The Gorge Rafting Trip

968

Almost everyone in West Virginia has experienced the New River Gorge with an eagle’s view but there is another, slightly closer, view you should experience. Let’s take a ride and see what all we can do on One Tank of Gas.

My one tank of gas brought me out to Adventures on the Gorge this week and I know what you are thinking…isn’t summer almost over? You’re right but after Gauley opens you are able to experience the New River without the crowds.

“I know people think that summer is when you go rafting but on the New River Gorge fall is it. Gauley Season begins and that draws all of the crowds on the New River, where the prices are already low anyway, are non-existent,” said Adventures on the Gorge’s Media Manager Jay Young.

I was a part of the summer rafting crowd but the experience, even with the crowds, was great! We started out learning the basics from our rafting guide, J.V., and it wasn’t long before we were warming up on some of the smaller rapids the New River has to offer.

But don’t get too comfortable because it is not long before you hit bigger rapids like the “Meat Grinder”.

Then you get to jump out of the boat, not while you are in the rapids of course and float down the river.

Adventures on the Gorge offer so many other adventures ranging from zip lining to treetop canopy tours and everything in between.

“Well, we call ourselves an adventure resort so if we want to call ourselves that with any kind of dignity then we have to provide a whole lot of other adventures. We have Timber Track Adventures which is like American Ninja Warrior and a ropes course,” said Jay.

Jonathan Chance grew up in Birmingham, AL where he experienced many different types of weather. The storm that is remembered more than any other is the 2011 Super Outbreak. The tornadoes passed within 20 miles of his home and affected the lives of many people around him.
