Beckley Remembers Former Mayor Emmett Pugh


BECKLEY– The city of Beckley mourned the loss of Emmett Pugh on Tuesday.

Known as Beckley’s native son, Pugh was laid to rest in his home town of Beckley. He died Thursday at Duke University Hospital after a brief illness.

Pugh served as the city’s mayor for 25 years from 1988 to 2013 before stepping down. Pugh drew several projects to the city, including the Beckley Intermodal Gateway, Beckley Exhibition Mine Interpretive Vision Center, Pinecrest Business and Technology Park, and the Beckley Z-Way Highway Project.

Mayor Emmett Pugh will be remembered for his dedication to his work in and around the city of Beckley.
