Two Fayette County Parents In Jail For Child Neglect On A 2 Year Old

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Two Fayette County people are in jail this evening after neglecting a 2-year-old child.

At about noon today, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Hillcrest Motel in Lookout regarding a Health & Welfare Check on a 2-year-old child. Deputies found the child with a serious head injury along with other signs of possible abuse and neglect. The child was immediately medically transported to the hospital for treatment.

The mother of the child, Miranda Lilly (34 of Ansted) and her roommate Jesse Springstead (35 of Lookout) were both arrested and charged with the felony offense of Child Neglect Creating Risk of Serious Injury. They have been remanded to the Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
Lilly and Springstead have been using methamphetamines while present with the child. The child was transferred from Plateau Medical Center to Charleston Area Medical Center, due to the severity of its condition. Substantially more serious charges may be pending following a medical report from the hospital. Both parties are denying committing any physical abuse at this time.

“This poor child is in pretty bad shape, we pray that it makes a full recovery,” says Sheriff Fridley. “Its a shame that children have to suffer this way, and we will try everything possible to make sure this baby will not be exposed to this again”.

This incident remains under investigation by Lt. T.N. Mooney, Cpl. R.D. Stephens, Deputy E.S. Pridemore and the Detective Bureau of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies are being assisted in this case by Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center, Just for Kids.
