WVU Women Win Big 12 Tournament

WOAY – Entering the Big 12 Tournament, West Virginia women’s basketball was firmly on the bubble when it came to making the NCAA Tournament.

After wins over Oklahoma and Texas, it appeared the Mountaineers had done enough to secure an at-large bid. But after a 77-66 win Monday night over top seed and second-ranked Baylor, WVU clinched the Big 12’s automatic bid to the tournament.

Tynice Martin scored 32 points for West Virginia, who led 22-14 after the first quarter and increased that lead to nine by halftime. The Mountaineers would lead by double digits for much of the second half, before Baylor rallied to pull within six. But the comeback would prove unsuccessful, leading to WVU’s first Big 12 Tournament championship.

It’s the first win for WVU over Baylor since March 2014.
