Recent Death Of Coal Miner Calls For Increased Mine Safety Actions


With the death of another West Virginia coal miner this week, there are now calls for more restrictions and safety guidelines in the mines.

According to the Charleston Gazette, Owen Jones was the 6th coal miner to die on the job in West Virginia, so far, this year.Nationally, Jones was the 12th coal miner to die on the job in 2017, compared to eight last year.

Butch Antolini, Governor Jim Justice’s communications director, did not respond to a request for information about what new mine safety initiatives Justice was launching in response to the rise in coal-mining deaths in the state.
