Princeton Renaissance Project announces mini-grant to help promote economic development

PRINCETON, WV (NEWS RELEASE) – The Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) of Pittsburgh, through its Blueprint Communities Initiative, recently awarded a mini-grant of $10,000 to the Princeton Renaissance Project to assist that organization with a civic project. The mini-grant will be used to give grants to fund the development of four start-up businesses to locate on Princeton’s historic Mercer Street. With additional funding from A Vision Shared in Charleston, each winner will receive a $3,000 cash grant to be used towards rent of a storefront downtown, plus a free membership to the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and other perks.

 

Princeton Renaissance Project team completed a required Blueprint Communities leadership development and planning effort in 2013. More recently PRP underwent a successful re-certification review process by the FHLBank of Pittsburgh and its consultant, Marylin McKeown from Charleston. The successful recertification will keep Princeton eligible for ongoing priority status for FHLBank of Pittsburgh funding opportunities. 

 

The Blueprint mini-grants are awarded to projects that help build community development momentum, have visual impact within the community, or offer a venue for community engagement. One other community organization in central West Virginia, Reboot Richwood, also received a Blueprint mini-grant for the development of a fishing platform and light watercraft launch site at the city’s Dain Park on the Cherry River.

 

The Blueprint Communities initiative is funded by the FHLBank of Pittsburgh and is administered by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center in Harrisburg, PA. The goal of the Blueprint Communities effort is to enhance the quality of life in communities and to create future opportunities for continued revitalization success by developing the capacity of local organizations. Additional partners include the West Virginia Community Development Hub. 

 

The application period for the grant will be Dec. 1- Feb. 1, and 8 finalists will be selected to compete in the finale “pitch contest” in early March, which will be co-sponsored by A Vision Shared. A complete business plan is required and coaching will be available to anyone who needs that assistance.
