BECKLEY– People from around to state came out to walk for a good cause today.
Hundreds of people came out to the walk to end Alzheimer’s in Beckley today. The walkers took laps around the Beckley Raleigh County Convention center. The walkers also wrote special messages and names of loved ones on plastic flowers that were planted in a promise garden. The flowers went home with attendees at the end of the event.the Alzheimer’s Association of West Virginia is the group that held the event. Development Director Kaarmin Ford says this is a key event for our community.
“It’s a really great event and it’s so important for people here in Beckley to know that there are services and support they can get,” began Ford. “It’s important to talk about Alzheimer’s disease because people normally don’t talk about the disease. You find people talking about cancer, or heart disease but we want people to know that there are support services they can get and they are not alone in fighting this disease.”
After the walk ended, raffle prizes, and awards were given out to participants.
