    Fire that damaged historic Barbour County covered bridge ruled arson

    A fire that damaged a historic bridge in Barbour County has been ruled arson by the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office.

    Investigators said someone intentionally set fire the 160- year-old Carrollton Covered Bridge in Barbour County overnight.

    According to the fire marshals’ office, fires were also intentionally set at two small campsites near the bridge. Investigators believe the fire at the bridge and the campsites are related.

    More than half a dozen fire crews battled the blaze that was reported about 11 p.m. Thursday.

    The state Department of Transportation said it is inspecting the structure, and it could be closed for week

    At this time no arrests have been made.
