FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY)—An annual tradition in Fayette County brought joy to children who may not be able to have a Christmas.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and Oak Hill Police Department teamed up and treated children to a holiday shopping spree as part of the “Shop With A Cop” Program.

Children were paired up with a cop who took them aisle to aisle to select toys, clothing and electronics to help put a smile on their faces.

Chief of Oak Hill Police Department, Michael Whisman Jr., shared his favorite part about the event.

“Every year there comes up either a family or a single child that tugs at your heart a little bit. You know lots of stories over the last 20 years from a lot of different officers but it’s a tremendous time for the officers,” said Whisman.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and Oak Hill Police Department love participating in this event every year and helping to put smiles on children faces to make their Christmas one to remember.
